As you’ve no doubt heard, Australia’s biggest rock band, AC/DC, are coming to New Zealand early in 2010. And their concerts have sold out in record time, which frankly surprises me a bit.
I mean, their music isn’t really anything remotely like anything any of the Finns have done, now is it?
Would they play AC/DC is an elevator, dentist’s waiting room, or supermarket?
Exactly.

Convict rock: Australia's finest.
Sadly I’m probably not going to see them, as it’s a minimum 4.5 hour drive and I’m a lazy git, but I should probably give myself a kick up the date and buy some tickets (there are still some available). I mean look at the old geezers; they’re not going to be shaking things all night long for a heck of a lot longer, now are they?

Funny that they’re still considered an Australian band when they’ve only had one Australian in the line up for the last 15 years. Still, fantastic music with worldwide appeal.

Surely it’s not a stretch to claim the Youngs as Australian – wikipedia tells me they moved to AU aged eight.

Of course they are Aussies like Crowded House

Bring back memories, and bring out the inner-bogan.

Just out of interest, where do they all live now? If some are in Aus and some in the UK it must be a nightmare catching up for band practice.

No idea, but considering when they do tour it’s for months on end, they can probably spare a few weeks beforehand to get in some practice.
I think the singer (aka he who shall never replace Bon) is involved in some other band too isn’t he?

They are probably considered an Australian band because the band formed in Australia, by people resident in Australia at that time, and the band evolved and developed initially in Australia in the Australian music scene with Australian listeners. Would seem odd to say they were a Scottish band or a Geordie band.
Much (or was it all?) of the original lineup were born outside Australia. Just like those other musical greats ‘Flash and the Pan’ and ‘Supernaut’.

Phil Rudd, the drummer, was born in Melbourne.
The band was formed by the Youngs, who were born in Scotland, and emigrated to Aus when they were eight.
Brian Johnson and Cliff Williams are both Poms.
And finally Bon Scott, I wasn’t aware, was also a Scot, who moved to Aus aged six.
So there you have it. I always thought AC/DC had a Western Australian connection, especially Fremantle, as that’s where Bon is buried.

Yes I always knew most of the key members were Scots, and Brian Johnson a Geordie. After all their accents give it away. Coincidentally I was reading up all all this a few weeks ago. (Not sure why as I am not really a fan.) Rudd left the band and lived quietly in New Zealand for a number of years. I believe his two replacements during his 1983-1994 absence were English. After many years away, Rudd then rejoined the band after they reconnected while touring New Zealand.
