As spotted in a New World supermarket by a reader: a special on bluff oysters.

Buff as in fit? Or as in, like, nude?
Shelled, maybe? I’ve no idea, but let me tell you, I’m intrigued.
Anyway, it could be worse. If this was my local New World it would have been “BUFF OYSTER’S”.
(Free fact: I almost bought some baby carrots in the supermarket this arvo. Until I saw they were $17.90 a kilo (!!!) Give me these naturist oysters any day.)
Also in NZ today, sheep go nuts at the “running of the sheep” in Te Kuiti and injure a spectator. I’m not making this stuff up.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend folks.

They’re just $11.00 a dozen from the Queen Victoria Market.

Rub it in Robert with your fancy-pants vic market.
Happily there is a pretty mean farmers’ market each Sunday around here.

Don’t forget Robert that price was quoted in NZD.
I wonder how the NZ is tracking against twigs and leaves this morning ;-)

I know. The differences are not huge between the currencies and that price looks expensive to me. Anyway I was just rubbing in the Vic Market bit! Its prices are good. Can’t remember who but someone on here said Australia has bad food!? Well I beg to differ… partly why I couldn’t resist the Vic Market crack.

How much do a dozen oysters in their shell weigh, roughly speaking? $19.89 per kg isn’t too bad IMO.
Must say I’m pretty partial to an oyster or twelve, kilpatrick or mornay, can’t come at them natural. Might have to try to hunt down some of these bluff critters. I’ll keep you posted.

You got me! It doesn’t specify… so that is for a kilo? I know the price at Vic Market having just bought two dozen their the day before. The best mussels I ever had were in NZ (twice).

I think oysters last time I bought them were around $AU10 for a dozen… so I’m guessing that price above even though is in $NZ is still a good price. If I had to choose between oysters and carrots (My God, who would pay that for carrots), I would go with Oysters!!!
My favourite place in NZ for seafood was the Sky Tower bistro in Auckland. I think I’ve been there for dinner maybe 5 times!!! (Pretty good considering I live in Sydney) I must have eaten 3 plates of mussels and oysters all for $NZ30!! Then there’s all the cake and ice-cream too… Wear stretch pants people!!!

Better than “I Spy” is the hilarious game of spot the incredibly bad spelling mistake on an N.Z. sign. A “found neckless” sign at the beach club was my favourite and I have given up looking for a correctly spelled Caesar salad on a professional menu.
The cold horror I experienced at my first “I brought it yesterday at the shop” has eventually subsided by the 197th time I have heard it. In fact only the other day I managed to get “brought and bought” confused,…..Is it simply that I live in the country area???
