It’s a case of mistaken signage, I’m pretty sure.
Having sampled quite a few smallgoods/mystery parcel meats made in NZ though, can’t hurt to be careful :)

How many flies do you ozzies ingest with every breath you take? ( if you forget to do the prerequisite fly swat dance that is ) Bet they taste nice eh.. Try some Watties Tomato sauce with them .. only buy the one in the tin, as the plastic bottle one is non genuine Ozzie stuff! yuck!

I’m a kiwi living in Oxford, UK and just a couple of days ago, on Masterchef (BBC), I watch three of four Michelin star judges say that New Zealand was widely acknowledged as the best pies in the world. The other guy was French and didn’t believe that pies were technically food and should not be discussed in a cooking show. I couldn’t find an online reference for this though, sorry!

Tomato sauce is not the same in NZ… It’s fountain or nothing. Love the honey… oh my it’s awesome. Love L&P. Hokey Pokey ice-cream…. I can’t live in NZ because I’d get too fat.

Go to the South Island, properly south agian like DunnyDunn, and have a Jimmy’s Pie…..mmmmm Jimmy’s…. A good Jimmy’s Pie is probably the only thing I miss about NZ, that and maybe V from a bottle. We get cans in the UK but it’s not the same. Ooooh and wedges from the 2-4 in Regent Rd Dunedin at 3am after kick out at KC’s. Mmmm scarfy days. As Ben Harper said “how I miss those good old days, I’m so glad they’ve gone”

I’m a regular visitor from and I agree…the pies in NZ (especially Jesters) are wicked. If you want a really BAD pie, try the ones in England!

NZ has the best pies.. especially from Hawera..OMG.. tha bakery there.. i could move there & live on them Mornin noon & night.. I forgot tha name of tha bakery.. but OMG.. its the best PIE iv ever eaten in my life.. & that beats Brehman Bakery in Umina beach, NSW, his bakery has won Royal easter show, Australian best pies tittles. he has awesome pies.. BUT… to compare both of them against each other.. NZ PIES WINS HANDS DOWN.. more variety.. more flavour.. & CHEAPER.. haha

since when did a “steak and cheese” become “beef and cheese” or (god forbid) “mince and cheese”?
I don’t think mince belongs in pies… they’re more spag bol and such… not pies!! I like my pies with chunky pieces of steak and rich thick gravy… so looking forward to pigging out when I visit NZ in Nov!!! Can’t find a decent pie place in melbourne.
